Quarrying can be dangerous and safety is a major preoccupation of the industry. It thus shares a common interest with the mining industry. The wide variety of topics discussed during the two days of the Luxembourg symposium fell into five main categories: reducing the risk of accidents; protection against health hazards; training to improve safety; worker involvement; and the part played by the various national inspectorates.
