In the reported experiments, individual component resins of peat wax and South-Urals brown-coal bitumen have been isolated and compared. It has been shown that the resins of peat wax contain 5. 9% of a mixture of sterols and traces of triterpenoids: betulin, friedelin, and friedelan-3 beta -ol. The resin of the South-Urals brown-coal bitumen contains only 0. 7% of steroid derivatives different from the sterols of the peat wax resin but a considerable amount of friedelin, friedelan-3 alpha -ol, and friedelan-3 beta -ol.
