ULTRASONIC LAPPING BY LAMB WAVE EXCITED ON LAP SURFACE.

A new lapping technique which utilizes the propagation of the ultrasonic Lamb wave on the lap surface was developed and successfully tested. Results show that ultrasonic vibration considerably increases the rate of stock removal, particularly in lapping quenched steel. However, the roughness of finished surface is inferior compared with conventional lapping. The vertical (normal vibration of the lap surface has a predominant effect on the increasing of the stock removal.
