Strengthening and repair of a load-bearing wall structure

This paper describes the causes of deterioration and shows the procedure of strengthening and repair of a load-bearing wall structure. The building was used as a poly-clinic unit. It was built ten years ago in one of the governorates in upper Egypt in the Nile valley. Part of the building, Part (A), consisted of ground floor only while the other part, part (B), consisted of two floors i.e. ground floor and first floor. Cracks and signs of failure happened in the bearing walls of part (A). Strengthening and repair works were carried out. After about one year of finishing these repair works, cracks appeared in the sound part of the building, Part (B), where strengthening and repair works of this part has been made.
