Thyristor-Controlled Streetcar Self-Propelled Cars in Austria. Electric Traction Equipment.

The municipal transport authorities of Linz and Graz will take delivery of 22 new chopper-controlled vehicle units with eight axles each and combined regenerative and resistance brake. The electric traction equipment is described, including the main current circuit and the electronic driving and braking control. Semiconducting power devices with high reverse voltage rating are used for the choppers which require neither series nor parallel connection of the thyristors and diodes. The electronic driving and braking control, system Simatic, with TTL-technique and integrated amplifiers is applied on more than 100 thyristor chopper-controlled vehicles.
