Continuum theory of radiative transfer is applied to nontransparent dispersed (particulate) media that have absorbing, scattering, and heat conducting properties. Attention is paid primarily to applications of the radiative diffusion model and to analysis of experimental thermal conductivity with respect to different heat transfer modes. Next, the radiation transfer problem is discussed with respect to applications of nonstationary laser-flash methods. Predictions of extinction cross sections that are needed as input radiative transfer calculations are reviewed. The final section deals with methods aimed at achieving maximum extinction in dispersed media.
