摘要：
The purpose of Top-Down Design is to describe a system at a very high level of abstraction, and to simulate its activity at a very high level of abstraction. This lets system architects try out concepts and weigh 'what if' assumptions without worrying about the individual gates or transistors that actually implement the circuit. The goal is a standardized system description that can be read by a wide range of foundries and implemented a number of ways with approximately the same results.
