A method is proposed for taking into account the magnetic anisotropy of electrical steel in determination of its magnetic properties for the design of three-phase induction motors. It is shown that when cold-rolled weakly grain-oriented and grain-oriented electrical steels are used for the magnetic circuits of three-phase induction motors, the calculations should be based on the equivalent magnetic characteristics for these steels obtained either for annular specimens or else computed from the formulas given with the aid of the characteristics obtained for strip specimens cut along the direction of rolling and at an angle of 60 degree with respect to the direction of rolling.
