摘要
Workstations are a new technology that has become available over the past 4 years. Workstations offer the promise of dedicated computing for the individual with peripherals shared by all. Individual control of the computing environment offers improved productivity at a price per seat that is very competitive with mainframe systems. Sharing peripherals such as tape, large disk, plotters, and printers on a network keeps the price per seat down. A workstation is a hardware/software combination that depends more on the quality of the software than hardware. In theory, a workstation can reduce cost or increase productivity sufficiently to pay for the investment many times over.
