In 1994, the Department of Defense stop imposing Military Specifications that dictate business practices. The objective was to remove the cost burden of 'business system' MilSpecs from defense contractors. Instead, the contractor was required to provide his own system for assuring the military that contract requirements were being met. The wisdom behind the cancellation of the specification, as well as the advantages and disadvantages, is discussed.
