Data are presented which demonstrate that better control of nip load distribution across the machine allows calender operation with fewer nips and leads to optimum smoothness and caliper profiles. Space-saving calender framework helps to shorten paper draws before and after the calender and simplified roll changing cuts maintenance costs.
