A mathematical model, based on the initial fluxes of buoyancy and momentum, was developed to help describe the buoyant jet behavior in stagnant water of infinite depth. This model was confined to a slot source discharging vertically. A numerical solution of the model in terms of the characteristic source parameters was provided. The results were applied to the finite depth case when the free surface has no effect.
