COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CODECS FOR DIGITAL TELEVISION.

The expected growth of digital television transmission via communication satellites will generate the need for very efficient codecs to make optimum use of the electromagnetic spectrum for communication purposes. To build in hardware one coder/decoder for processing real time video, the current costs are from 200 K to 800 K and the fabrication time is around one year. The purpose of this research is to determine the performance of various encoding schemes without having to actually build the hardware to process the signals in real time.
