摘要
This paper outlines construction and characteristics of the main equipment constituting the experimental model, such as multiplex equipment, line terminating equipment and repeating equipment of the PCM-400M system, the first high-speed (400 Megabits/sec) digital transmission system using standard coaxial cable in Japan. It is designed for application to a long-haul transmission line of up to 2,500 km to form the basis for digital transmission network in the future. This system permits high quality transmission of 5,760 telephone voice channels or 60 1-MHz band TV telephone channels (240 channels in the future) or 12 4-MHz band TV telephone channels (60 channels in the future).
