The paper describes ways of improving the utilization of primary energy by means of cogeneration. The fundamental considerations are followed by BBC concepts and circuits for new district heating plants and for converting existing plants. Examples of new plants are the conventional district heating plant Studstrup 3/4 in Denmark and the combined cycle plant Pegus 11 in Utrecht in the Netherlands. Examples of converted installations are the conventional plants Amer 6/7 in the Netherlands and Asnoes in Denmark as well as the combined cycle plant Pegus 10 in Utrecht.
