Low-cost, high-quality isoprene monomer has been desired in the rubber industry for a long time. A new process called GPI Process to extract high-quality isoprene monomer from the C5 fraction, developed in Japan, is a combination of extractive distillation and conventional distillation. The process illustration and the performance data of the commercial plant are explained in this paper.
