Craftsman training in a university setting. A Nigerian experience

Traditionally, the education of craftsmen and engineers had always been in separate types of institutions. Craftsmen are usually trained in technical schools while engineers are trained in the universities. A Nigerian university has experimented with the training of craftsmen in its workshops alongside the training of engineers. The programme and its effects on general engineering education are discussed in this paper. The relevance of the experiment in relation to the production of skilled engineering manpower for developing countries is analysed.
