75 Years of Water Management in the Ruhr District.

Based on coal mining in the area between the rivers Rhine, Ruhr and Lippe an important industrial region has developed. Water supply and wastewater disposal caused severe problems. After 1900 several water associations had been formed by Prussian Law to sanitate the district. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary the tasks of Ruhr River Association and Ruhr Reservoir Association are described. Many solutions may be an example for other river basins as well.
