摘要
An engineer's ability to qualify as an expert depends on matching the issues on which he is expected to testify with his relevant education, professional and work experience, publication history, professional registration, and so on. A professional engineering license does not qualify or disqualify an individual as an expert. In addition, the fact that an engineer has not testified extensively as an expert can be more beneficial than not. In many cases an attorney is reluctant to employ a person who has made a career as an expert trial witness. In short, a qualified engineer can serve well as an expert witness if he understands the functions and demands of this important role.
