CONCEPTION OF A CERTAIN METHOD OF SULPHUR EXPLOITATION.

A method of sulfur mining is proposed which differs from the method used at present in that the deposit is first worked gradually starting from the near-floor layers, through higher and higher parts until the roof is reached. This method is possible due to the application of a 'movable piston'. The melting of sulfur proceeds mainly as a result of the inflow of hot water and heating of the deposit from the bottom. A mathematical-physical model of the method proposed is presented, and an equation for the free melting area is given. The speed at which the 'piston' is moved is calculated together with the effectiveness of the method and the discharge of hot water as functions of time. It is shown that the exploitation of sulfur carried out in this way makes it possible to achieve better utilization of the deposit, ensuring a higher yield from its lower parts.
