Thermal drying and mechanical dewatering with dewatering silos or vacuum filters to 5-15 wt% residual moisture content, depending on grain size, the economical dewatering of sand to constant values 3 wt% water content is of great interest. The Dorr-Oliver horizontal sand filter with steam heating has proved to be excellently suited for this task.
