摘要
At the present time, a 1200-ton/day solid waste steam generating plant is under construction in Saugus, Mass. The steam output from this plant will be piped across the nearby Saugus River to a large industrial plant for use in processing, testing and power generation. The 2 billion pounds (907,100 tons) annually to be supplied will reduce the fuel oil requirements of the industrial plant by about 73,000 gal (276,335 liters) of No. 6 fuel daily. This paper, while describing the basic features of the plant, deals primarily with the inception of the idea, the attempts at municipal participation, and funding, and some of the unusual features of operation due to its integration and control by the industrial plant's steam system.
