The authors present a new type of cable with internal water cooling. This gives appreciably improved performance over naturally cooled cables without cooling stations and independently fed pumps. This autarkic transmission system utilizes conductor current to drive motors built into cable sleeves or terminal heads, and thus to drive the connected pumps so that the circulated water in the cables absorbs heat which is released in the return pipes. This improved heat extraction leads to the increased performance outlined above.
