Enhanced extraction of geothermal energy may be accomplished by non-isothermal processes, such as in-place boiling, artificial circulation of colder fluids, or by steam drive. To evaluate the characteristics of these processes, experiments were conducted in a 0. 48 m**3 (17 ft**3) laboratory model of high permeability rock systems capable of operating at a maximum pressure of 55 bar (800 psig) at 260 C (500 F). The results showed that energy stored in fractured rock media used in the laboratory model can be extracted by the in-place boiling and sweep non-isothermal processes with good efficiencies.
