A brief historical survey is presented, and recent development of the telex service in Switzerland is reported. The steep increase in the number of subscribers and in traffic volume as well as the high degree of automation in the international service are pointed out. The reasons responsible for the fast growth of the medium, especially over the past few years, are examined and a forecast of its future development is made.
