Magnetic response of field-cooled type-I superconducting hollow cylinders

A long hollow cylinder is the simplest multiply-connected system that allow a rigorous elementary thermodynamic analysis. The magnetic response of hollow cylinders of type-I superconductors after field-cooling exhibited paramagnetic response in a narrow field interval. The amplitude ΔH of this interval depended inversely on the cross-section Sh of the hole. However, the response of the system was diamagnetic for all fields if Sh/S&leα0. For microcylinders of total cross-section S = 6π×10-10 m2 this effect was observed for fields H such 0.82 μT0H<1.09 μT.
