Flawless Gas Distribution by Using Computerized Control System.

A new process computer system for monitoring and control of the gas distribution net has been introduced by Gasversorgung Sueddeutschland (GVS) in Stuttgart. The main components of the system are doubled in order to achieve better reliability. Colored graphic CRTs are used to supervise operating conditions, to figure information of the gas transport or to execute remote control of the network. A new forecasting and simulation system which is directly connected to the gas network is applied for the first time. It enables the computation of gas demand in advance and gives a realistic prediction of the state of the gas net up to 48 hours forward. The results allow the check of control commands given into the system and the optimization of gas dispatching in the control room.
