Thermal Decomposition of Complex Chloride Salts of Palladium in the Presence of Sodium Carbonate.

It is suggested that during the heating of (NH//4)//2 left bracket PdCl//6 right bracket and (NH//4)//2 left bracket PdCl//4 right bracket with Na//2CO//3 the reaction between the reagents leads to the formation of an intermediate product - namely, Na//2 left bracket PdCl//4 right bracket and to its subsequent reduction by liberated ammonia. Of great importance is the fact that the end-products of the thermolysis of the palladium salts in the presence of sodium carbonate are metallic palladium, NaCl, and gaseous NH//3, CO//2, H//2O and N//2, i. e. , a reducing atmosphere is formed during the calcining process.
