A buckling analysis is made of shear-elastic open and closed sections under uniform compression in the longitudinal direction. Transfer matrices are used for the calculation of the buckling load for L, U, box and hexagonal sections with shear deformation. The core bending stiffness is taken into account. A simplified method for the buckling calculation is introduced, and the region between local buckling and overall buckling is verified using the above-mentioned transfer matrices. Some results of practical interest are presented in the form of diagrams.
