Surface state of Pt-Rh and Pt-Ag Raney catalysts

X-ray phase analysis, XPS and IR spectroscopy, low-temperature argon adsorption, and the potentiodynamic method were used to study the phase composition, surface state, and adsorption properties of Pt-Rh and Pt-Ag Raney catalysts. The raw alloys were prepared in the ternary-eutectic region of PtAl4, Al, and Rh- or Ag-enriched phases. The additive was present in a concentration of 7-10 atom % relative to the Pt. The adsorption properties of the catalysts were studied via the IR spectra of CO as a ″molecular probe″.
