摘要
The principles underlying these materials (first demonstrated during the early years of the space program) are outlined. Their properties are described and the prime advantage of a magnetic fluid shown to be the combination of fluid and magnetic properties which allows control of the fluid's position by application of a magnetic field. Applications include use in difficult sealing, lubricating, heat transfer and damping problems.
