Video Data Monitor.

Since 30th August 1985, the ARD and ZDF have been transmitting additional signals in line 16 for the control of domestic video-recorders. VPS (Video Programme System) requires that broadcast installations be equipped not only with data production and distribution systems, but also that engineers must be provided with the means of monitoring their transmission as a digital burst in the television waveform. The Westdeutscher Rundfunk has developed a universal monitor for VPS data and this has been used successfully since the service was introduced. The authors describe the apparatus and its different functions.
