The undescribed dichlorides of 2,2 prime -dihydroxycarbonyl-bis-(5-indolyl)oxide and 2,2 prime -dihydroxycarbonyl-bis-(5-indolyl)sulphone have now been synthesized and described. Indole-containing polyarylates have been prepared under acceptor-catalytic polyesterification conditions from the obtained dichlorides and bisphenols. The polarylates dissolve in a number of organic solvents, and their softening points are in the interval 180-270 degree .
