Phase equilibria in the Mg-Dy-Zn system

Methods of differential thermal analysis, microscopy and X-ray spectrum microanalysis were used to analyze a phase diagram of Mg-Dy-Zn system in a magnesium-rich corner. Binary Mg24Dy5,Mg7Zn3 and MgZn as well as x,y and z ternary compounds were found to be in equilibrium with magnesium base solid. In the system four nonvariant equilibria with participation of a liquid phase took place at 340,437,531 and 537°C. Three isothermal and five polythermal sections were constructed along with a projection of solidus surface for magnesium-rich corner. For dysprosium and zinc mutual solubility in magnesium solid solution was determined at temperatures of 500,400 and 300°C.
