摘要
Laboratory and field tests have been undertaken to determine chemical composition of 10 t permanent molds made from pig iron and modified by partial oxidation in a tandem furnace. It is shown that such premalleableization makes it possible to vary carbon, manganese, and silicon content of pig iron and its microstructure. The results confirm a beneficial effect of manganese (optimum content 0. 8 to 1. 0%) on mechanical strength and formation of pearlitic structure, resulting in a prolonged service life of the molds.
