GUIDE TO INFRARED TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS.

Infrared (IR) radiation thermometry has long played an important part in process control. Its use is required where physical contact with the process is impossible, dangerous, or undesirable. And when a temperature record at any of those points is a must, the answer is usually infrared measurement. IR instruments are also being used for thermal inspection to seek out areas where heat is being wasted. This application is being spurred on by new demands for efficient energy use. This article provides guidelines for selecting IR instruments for measuring and controlling industrial process temperatures, and thermal inspection.
