摘要
Face milling is one of the most important machining processes in industry. However, no mathematical models exist to describe the optimum path for milling. This paper formulated the problem as a mathematial model and then presented a solution procedure for calculating an optimal length of cut for a triangle. The procedure was expanded so that it can be applied to an N-sided polygon. The methodology introduced may be incorporated into any existing CAD/CAM system, provided the CAD data base is accessible, such that it generates optimal NC cutting tool paths for face milling operations.
