Achievement of peace, stability, and social justice on a global scale are seen to require fundamental whole-system change. The basic outline of the argument states that the whole-system approach is most appropriate for understanding the origins and resolutions of the global dilemmas; that it is important to include in the system model individual and collective beliefs; that using this approach leads to the high likelihood of rapid and fundamental change; and that one aspect of the emerging paradigm is the power of collective imagery and affirmation to help bring about smooth and nondistruptive change. It is felt that such a transformational scenario is not only plausible at this point in history, but there is reason for hope that it might not be as disruptive as some past transformations.
