The SF//6 metal-clad substations are an affirmed alternative of the open air substations. The functions of the metal-clad substation are the same of the conventional substation; but the former, having some peculiarities compared to the latter has the need for suitable testing specifications. To this purpose the ENEL Standardization of metal-clad substations and the following qualification are the most important phases to obtain a suitable level of reliability. The problems of evaluation of the reliability of a substation, as well as those relating to the development of the design and testing specifications, are considered in view of the standardization and the qualification of the metal-clad substation for the transmission and the primary distribution networks by ENEL.
