The authors deal specially with the problem of the interaction between the foundations of an engineering structure and the bedding ground which has been or is being deformed by underground mining: this article presents research results obtained by C. Klosek and correlates them with the present theories on the subject. The physical-mechanical parameters of soils in a mining area vary over long periods of time; this means that the parameters of the soil before the mining operations can differ considerably from the values obtained during the deformations or after the line of face has passed below the region concerned. The noticeable and irreversible drop of the soil cohesion of 30-60%, with a practically negligible increase of its internal friction angle, leads to the lowering of the strength characteristics of the soil.
