摘要:
The review of Transportation Policy released by the federal department of Transport last June was generally negative on the future of passenger rail service in Canada and recommended suspension of many passenger lines. The long malaise and absence of planning in the passenger transportation sector will increase the difficulties still to be overcome by the National Transportation Policy that is now beginning to evolve. It has been promised within the next two years. There is of course a need for rail passenger transportation in Canada, and it is recognized by statute. One transcontinental train might be able to operate economically, but the odds against it seem high. And whatever the final decision are, Canada woefully short of up-to-date equipment with which to implement any policy.
