Laminar flow and heat transfer from a cylinder with circumferential fins rotating inside a stationary shroud are computed. Centrifugal buoyancy is found to oppose the forced flow and decrease heat-transfer augmentation. The greatest augmentation is found for relatively short fins placed close together. Heat-transfer augmentation is accompanied by an increase in the torque required to rotate the cylinder; this increase is of the same order as the augmentation in heat transfer. Local and overall heat-transfer results are presented as a function of the Taylor and Grashof numbers and geometrical parameters such as the fin clearance and fin spacing. © 1987 by J. Murthy.
