The velocity and pressure fluctuations in the open test section of a wind tunnel with a 1. 2 m diameter nozzle, designed for maximum suppression of low-frequency flow fluctuations were investigated. However, at several average flow velocities we observed self oscillations of the flow, which cause a two- to three-fold increase in the intensity of longitudinal velocity fluctuations. These fluctuations in the flow in the test section were suppressed by application of a low-frequency acoustic field, which reduced the intensity of velocity and pressure fluctuations of self oscillatory flow modes to a level equal to that of non-self oscillatory modes.
