Nondestructive testing procedure, based on the Barkausen effect is elaborated. The procedure is examined by the rectangular 18Kh9NT steel specimens with hardening depth of 1-2 mm. Hardening is executed in gaseous environment at 930°C. To form the service properties the specimens are undergone quenching and tempering at 870 and 150°C respectively. Maximum intensity of magnetic field and coercive force is measured.
