CUTTING TESTS FOR HIGH MANGANESE NON-MAGNETIC STEEL PLATE WERE CARRIED OUT TO OBTAIN THE OPTIMUM CUTTING CONDITIONS ANDTHE MOST APPROPRIATE CUTTING TOOLS FOR TURNING AND DRILLING. THE TEST RESULTS WITH CERMET TOOLS FOR CONTINUOUS CUTTING IN TURNING WERE AS GOOD AS THOSE OF AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL. EFFECTS OF THINNING SHAPE, POINT GRINDING AND TOOL GEOMETRY ON THE CUTTING PERFORMANCE IN DRILLING WERE ALSO EXAMINED. AS A RESULT, THE CUTTING PERFORMANCE OF SPECIALLY SHAPED TWIST DRILLS HAS BEEN IMPROVED BY MORE THAN 10 TIMES COMPARED WITH CONVENTIONAL DRILLS. IN JAPANESE WITH ENGLISH ABSTRACT.
