By acting as a die lubricant, fluorocarbon elastomer processing aids reduce back pressure - and thus shear stress - in the extruder barrel. Only very low additive loadings are needed for shear-sensitive polyolefins resins to be extruded at high output rates without the threat of sharkskin surfaces or melt fracture.
