To determine the geometrical size of transverse stiffeners in areas subject to buckling, the relations shown in DASt-Ri 012 are used to find the effective width. By considering these application limits, simple coherence results for the geometrical sizes of the stiffeners are shown. All formulas necessary, as well as a geometry coefficient, have been generally compiled. Stiffeners of frequently used unequal-angle sections are dimensioned via further evaluation, leading to dimensioning diagrams. The diagrams shown are valid for steel grades St 37 and St 52. The equations for the determination of the minimum stiffness in accordance with the theory of second-order elasticity for sections with more than three subdivisions are simplified and summarized.
