The propagation and instability of acoustic waves in a regularly layered active medium of the type current-carrying piezoelectric semiconductor plus vacuum gap are investigated. It is shown that the periodicity of the medium results in the generation of new acoustic modes with a large velocity anisotropy and a large growth rate.
