A study was made of the shear modulus anomaly and internal friction of dispersion-hardening Fe-Ni alloys (Elinvars) obtained in an open induction furnace and subjected to either a double heat treatment or a thermomechanical treatment. It is known that for high-precision operation of elastic elements made out of Elinvars it is necessary that the elastic modulus of the material have a minimum dependence not only on temperature but also on the elastic deformation; the internal friction in this case should also be minimum. The results obtained from this study show that these requirements can be met most fully by Elinvars with a high titanium concentration after thermomechanical treatment including tempering at 50-600 degree C.
