摘要：
The paper describes how the critical total load of frameworks can approximately be calculated by summing up reciprocally the critical total load calculated with the aid of the continuum method and that associated with the sway excess of the columns between the beams by making use of Dunkerley's modified theorem. However, the effect of the sway excess reducing the critical total load may also directly be taken into account: in this case, simple formulas are obtained for the calculation of the critical total load.
